Marengo Main Street wins national accreditation

Marengo Main Street Inc. has been designated as an accredited National Main Street Program for meeting the commercial district revitalization performance standards set by the National Trust Main Street Center.

The organization’s performance is evaluated annually by Illinois Main Street, which works in partnership with the National Trust Main Street Center to identify the local programs that meet 10 performance standards.

Those standards include developing a mission, fostering strong public-private partnerships, securing an operating budget, tracking economic progress, and preserving historic buildings. --Northwest Herald

Introducing "Savin' a Rainy Day."

Come see the “Renewable Art” exhibit this summer in downtown Marengo, featuring unique rain barrels that can be used to collect rainwater in your own back yard. Reduce your water bill and enjoy fresh rainwater on your grass and garden.

Renewable because plastic food containers are recycled used as a unique
canvas and as rainwater harvesting containers, rather than thrown in a landfill.

Renewable because, rain barrels spare a portion of the water drawn through the
municipal water system, helping to protect our local ground water.

Renewable because, harvesting rainwater is a money saving option for watering your lawn and garden, in addition to uses like washing your vehicles and pets.

Renewable because it will provide an attraction for visitors and improve enthusiasm in downtown Marengo.

Renewable because the barrels will be auctioned at the end of summer to raise funds in support of Marengo’s Downtown Business District revitalization and for Marengo Main Street, Inc.

On display in downtown Marengo July 17 - October 9, 2010
